Brunch at the World’s Highest Bar ๐Ÿท A Treat at Ozone

Brunch at Ozone – Is It Worth The Expense?

Time for a treat! Brunch at Ozone is brunch at the world’s HIGHEST bar, meaning KILLER views of Hong Kong, which of course you pay for!

Without going into too much detail, along with many people this 2020, it’s not been the kindest for Bianca and I. We moved to Hong Kong to start a new future, and although we remain here, we’ve no idea for how long!

That of course, is another discussion! You are here to read about Brunch at Ozone and that’s exactly what we’ll talk about!

Why did we go for brunch at Ozone? Well firstly, why not! The worlds highest bar was within touching distance so it’d be rude not to for one!

The main reason for our visit however was to celebrate our “pre-wedding anniversary”. On June 26th 2021, Bianca and I shall marry in northern Italy, not too far from Bianca’s hometown of Brescia.

So we thought, what better way to dispel a difficult year then drink our troubles away on the 118th floor of the suave Ozone bar, with endless eggs and dessert!

SPOILER – We had a lot of fun!

๐Ÿ™ƒ Itโ€™s easy to feel or be upside down in this period. ๐ŸŒฆโฃ โฃ Like many others we have been there too. From a year that started on such a high note, we found our plans completed changed.โฃ โฃ We moved to Hong Kong at the end of January. We have now been living in hotels for two months and we are currently staying in our fourth accommodation in 5 months, not able to have a fixed place to stay due to our visa.โฃ โฃ Many times we feel like we are all over the place, with an exaggerated number of luggage to carry, waiting in vain for some borders near by to reopen and not knowing where we are gonna be in two weeks time.โฃ โฃ Luckily we have each other and a whole life together to look forward. Every time one of us has a cloudy day the other one will pick them up. What we just want to share with you is that #itsoknottobeok. We are trying to take the best from the situation we are in, treating our selves sometimes like this pre wedding anniversary brunch we did on Sunday, knowing that looking at the glass half empty will not be of any benefit.โฃ โฃ Sometimes you feel lonely in a new city, miles away from home and friends. But we know that we are not alone in that and many others are in a same situation. How are you coping with these difficult times? What are your current situation? We would like to hear from you, because together we are stronger and we can overcome this crazy year โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿปโฃ (๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น Italian version in the comment below)โฃ โฃ #umamilife #sharingiscaring #youarenotalone

Brunch at Ozone – Should I Go?

QUICK TIP – We read online that dress code was important at Ozone, so despite the searing heat we got smart, to find out when we got there most people were in shorts and t-shirt (oddly most foreigners were dressed up and most locals/Chinese were 100% casual).

I believe in the evening dress code here absolutely applies but in the day it seems anything goes! We are glad we smartened up for the occasion but don’t stress if you are not sure.

Brunch at Ozone – Where Is It?

A fancy brunch needs a fancy location – step up the Ritz Carlton – one of Hong Kong’s luxury hotels. There’s a few of them by the way.

Oddly a lot of them are located on Hong Kong Island, but the Ritz Carlton is actually located on the “Kowloon side”.

We took the MTR from the Island to KOWLOON MTR STATION and from there, everything is sign-posted, just follow signs for the RITZ CARLTON and you can’t go wrong.

As with any fancy hotel, there are staff everywhere guiding you.

We took a lift up to the 101st floor I believe, and from there, is another waiting room, and we took the rather psychedelic 2nd next lift up to the top, floor 118!

ADDRESS – Level 118, International Commerce Ctr. 1 Austin Road West Kowloon

Brunch at Ozone – The Menu

So having booked up around 10 days before we were super excited having checked out the menu online.

Of course, this is subject to change all the time but here is the menu we enjoyed, with the costs alongside:

So the brunch comes in at 488HKD before anything else (plus the expected 10% service charge) which effectively makes the cost 537HKD each.

Starter Salad
Starter Salad

For this you get:

  • A starting salad
  • A main
  • Unlimited Egg dishes
  • Unlimited Dessert

Fair to say you get pretty good value there. When going to the world’s highest bar to eat, you don’t expect it to come cheap.

Then for the alcoholic add-ons!

The free Don Perignon was the choice of virtually every other table I saw. 1,288HKD per person, free flow, isn’t that bad at all when you consider you can enjoy the seat for a number of hours!

Staff are always on hand fairly quickly to top you up so there is no waiting around either.

We, however, wanted to sample the wine and cocktails so we added that on (268HKD per person).

Sadly there was only one kind of Merlot available on free-flow wine which wasn’t so clear until we asked so we dove in on the cocktails of which we sampled the Negroni, Long Island Iced Tea, Cosmopolitan and Mojito – all great, and strong!

Brunch at Ozone – The Food

It’s good, we filled up and really enjoyed it.

Is it great? Probably not. Will it stick in the memory? The occasion, yes, but for the food, no.

Poached Eggs on Mashed Potato - One I enjoyed
Poached Eggs on Mashed Potato – One I enjoyed

It’s a brutally honest, but genuine opinion of which we both agreed on.

A lot of the time these incredible rooftop bars and restaurants tend to flatter to deceive when it comes to the actual product.

Everyone wants to get that perfect Instagram photo (my word don’t we these days)! That’s what many pay the money for.

You could probably eat a far better 3 course meal at many other places in Hong Kong.

That’s not saying it’s poor, it isn’t. It’s well presented, it’s nice, it’s also bottomless!

There are many positives, but that’s an honest and balanced viewpoint.

EXAMPLE – Bianca ordered a famous Italian pasta known as Capellini, a thin variety of Italian pasta.

Honestly, the dish was more akin to a Singaporean noodles dish you could buy on the street.

My Ribs, tasty, nice, yes… but I’ve had better ribs at TGI Fridays!

Brunch at Ozone – The Staff

I think when you come to a 5-star restaurant its not wrong to expect on-point, fast, friendly service. Its perfectly reasonable in fact.

Now don’t get me wrong here, the people at Ozone were friendly and polite, absolutely.

The View - What you pay for!
The View – What you pay for!

But were they 5 star?

For me no.

A little all “over the place”, a little untidy truth be told.

For example, I ordered the Gazpacho for my first course. Instead I got the Portobello mushrooms.

We informed them and they kindly changed it – but it took all of 20 minutes, and Bianca was long finished with her salad.

I don’t hate this… people make mistakes ultimately. In the mean time we necked our drinks and we were having a great time, but out of all the places we’ve been too and written about, you’d probably least expect that at a place like the Ritz.

Brunch at Ozone – The View

This is what it’s all about.

Killer, killer views. Hong Kong boasts many amazing spots from up above in truth! We’ve been lucky to see many in 6 months but this has to be the best.

For height alone – 118 floors high, you really can piece together the whole city.

We’ve lived across the island line and we spent many minutes pointing out and discovering places we’d been to and even lived.

It’s truly special and of course, there are people taking pics everywhere!

Honestly, it’s something you should really try and fit into your Hong Kong schedule, whether it be for brunch, dinner or drinks (brunch for sure is the best value out of those though).

Brunch at Ozone – Should I Go?

Brunch at Ozone

For the views alone, absolutely.

The whole occasion though was really great fun. In difficult times, our Sunday spent there really made us laugh and we look back on it with fondness.

Despite the negatives I’ve pointed out, these are simply balancing our thoughts out.

You tend to be stricter when reviewing 5 star places, because ultimately, you are paying for it, you expect more.

Despite the drawbacks mentioned, do not let that put you off in any way. It really is a great way to spend a Sunday.

Take advantage of the bottomless drinks and the endless eggs and dessert also, if you have the stomach for it (easier said than done when you are there)!
